I have a SQL 2000 with sp3 recently connected to the NetApps filer. For
the last two days the SQL Server keeps hanging. I can't even log on to
the machine, can't open enterprise manager. We have to bounce the
server. The errorlog indicates:

What does it mean by the scheduler? Is this where the Enterprise
manager runs all the scheduled jobs?
Have any ideas as to what's going on?
Thanks,

Scheduler appears to be hung
Hi,
I have a SQL Server 2000 SP3 running on Windows Server 2000. I have moved
two databases that are used continously about two months back to this server
and since then I have noticed this error coming up every 10 to 15 days.
The Scheduler 1 appears to be hung. SPID 0, ECID 0, UMS Context 0x023339C0.
Error: 17883, Severity: 1, State: 0
The Scheduler 0 appears to be hung. SPID 0, ECID 0, UMS Context 0x0233C8D8.
Error: 17883, Severity: 1, State: 0
The SQL Server just freezes and becomes non-responsive. The above error was
present for almost 8 minutes before it started responding. At one time, I
wasn't even able to do a Remote Desktop to the server to check why the server
is not responding and later on I found that it had the same error. Any
information regarding this will be highly appreciated. How many processors do you have running? This implies two, or at least one
with hyperthreading. You might try turning one off completely.

will experience an increase in performance with HT disabled. Test in your
environment.

Scheduled DTS Package not running
I have a DTS package setup that runs just fine when I fire
it off as a DTS package, but when I schedule it to run it
fails.
I'm running SQL2K, sp3. SQLAgent is running.
Has anyone seen this before ?
TIA...
Michael. What is the package trying to do when it fails? This can happen because of
privileges (or lack thereof) of the SQL Agent service account that differ
from the privileges used when running the package from Enterprise Manager.

1) if DTS references a file that SQLAgent Account cannot Access/does not hav
e access to
2) if non-sysadmin created SQLAgentJob and SQLProxy a/c exist then job will
be executed in SQLProxy a/c context
3) if DTS is executed using exec xp_cmdshell 'DTSRun' or xp_cmdshell exists
inside DTS and SQLAgent job creator account does not have rights to execute
xp_cmdshell and no sqlproxy account then could get the problem.
hope this helps|||The first part is an ActiveX script that gets file names
off a dir. and inserts them into a table.
The acct mesSQL01 is the account that SQL logs in under as

and has full control on the dir that it is looking on.
heres the fail message that is returned by sendmail:

This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties, and confers no rights.|||as indicated before it depends on a number of things . .

As Dinesh posted.. Please check whether your "SQL Agent" service in SQL

Incase if the service failed to start, go to Control Panel -- Services-- SQL

As Dinesh posted.. Please check whether your "SQL Agent" service in SQL
Server machine is
running. If stopped "start" the service and verify whether the job gets
executed.
Incase if the service failed to start, go to Control Panel -- Services-- SQL
Agent Log ON window.. Re- enter the
OS user name and password (if it is not starting in Local system account).
Enter the same OS User you used to start MSSQL
Server service. This will probably solve your issue
Thanks

Schedule a Job - Access denied
Greetings,
We have a NT4.0 SP6a server with SQLServer 7.0 SP3 installed. We have a job
that writes data to a text file. This job works fine either manually or
scheduled when writing to a local hard drive. However when writing to the
network the job will work when run manually but not when run scheduled.
I thought the problem has to do with the scheduler not having rights on the
network. The scheduler runs from the system account. When I tried to change
it to a network account I got this message, "Service Schedule could not be
configured to run under a shared process. If computer xxxx in not a Windows
2000 computer, service which run in a shared process must run under the
system account."
Error 1057: the account name is invalid or does not exist, or the password
is invalid for the account name specified.
Any idea how I can get this schedule job to write to the network?
Jim
Jim,
Which service did you change? You need to change the account of the
SQLServerAgent service to use a domain account that has rights to your
network resource.
