Is there a way to schedule a task to shutdown SQL server, run a backup and
restart the service after the backup is finished?
can use the AT scheduler for this but why not backup the database and then
schedule the backup software using sqlserveragent to backup the backup file
as a subsequent step to the database backup?

Scheduled Tasks for SQL 7.0
Is there a way to schedule a task to shutdown SQL server, run a backup and
